Activities

To give you a flavour of what the area offers here are some recommendations:

In Summer take the brand new Nigg – Cromarty Ferry and then have a leisurely lunch at the excellent Sutor Creek Cafe. For the more energetic take the Ecoventures boat from Cromarty or drive to Fortrose and see the Dolphins so easily visible from the coastline.

Loch Shin Falls and Visitor Centre – owned by Mohammed al Fayad formerly of Harrods fame this offers a good restaurant / cafe, walking trails and an opportunity to see salmon leaping, in season.

Glenmorangie Whisky Distillery – where the famous whisky is distilled, a good tour is offered and there may even be “a wee free sample”.

Dunrobin Castle – surely one of the most impressive castles in the country with commanding views over the sea below.

Castle of Mey – a little further afield but worth the trip. The Castle is the former home of the Queen Mother.

Sea fishing at Portmahomack – we can arrange this for you from a reliable insured and safe local vessel.

Anta Shop and Pottery – the “head office” of the Anta empire with shops in Regent Street, London and Edinburgh.

Tain Pottery - a different kind of design, historically linked to Mounteagle. The Potters can sometimes be seen at work.

Beach Visits – Portmahomack, smaller, informal and fun - or Dornoch, a breathtakingly long beach often deserted of people.
